Review on Winsor Newton Calligraphy Bottle Black by Kim Sanchez

Misleading art supplies

Although the bottle is labeled as fountain pen and dip pen ink, it is not. Handles don't work well. One participant said that the ink contained pigment particles rather than a soluble dye like fountain pen ink should be, and that appears to be the case with my use. Do not use this ink with fountain pens. From the fountain pen side, this is a rather dull ink. I guess whoever came up with the thought that if only the ink was more fluid it would be ok to call it fountain pen ink as I find it a lot less viscous than my speedball/kuretake/yasutomo ink. While some people might like this as it makes it more manageable in the sense that it clogs less and gets on the page more easily, I find this characterization rather negative. and too much ink to drip off the pen, causing the thicker lines created with G-pens to leave a small puddle on the page. You also have to be very careful as the ink doesn't sink into the pen. If you put too much stress on the pen, it can run off and ruin everything you've been working on. Ink in my book, I could see that some people who want a dip pen ink that spreads more easily enjoy this ink. Anyway, I'm not a fan.
