Review on πŸ”’ August Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th Gen) – Simple Installation on Your Current Deadbolt, Sleek Silver Design by Aaron Martin

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Looks like an early access/beta product

Let's start with the pros - because there aren't many of them. adapter is not needed) - auto-lock is cool - if it was working all along Now Cons: - settings may require bluetooth or wifi, there is no easy way to switch between them. makes no sense. Want to set up auto-block when connected via WiFi? very bad. Do you want to calibrate your Wi-Fi lock? Pity: Automatic unlocking can only be configured for ONE lock. Sure, you can get in and out through the same door most of the time, but if you change anything, be prepared to pull out your phone or key. Auto unlock might work 1 out of 10 attempts (iPhone x). Door less than half an inch away - no bones. I had to attach it to the inner door panel for it to work. Wi-Fi works almost too well, although most functionality is tied to Bluetooth, which ALWAYS fails. To be honest, I had two locks - if one is connected, the other is not and vice versa. Setting a lock seems to solve the problem. Of course this can be a problem with the iPhone, but maybe a solution can also be found by working with Apple/August suppliers. Does the app always have to be activated for automatic unlocking? I have a security system that can use geofencing to disarm without launching the app - seems wonky - setting up the product took about 10 tries to go through completely without freezing - and I've done it 3 times (after a factory reset in hopes of fixing some issues ) - so be prepared to spend about 45 minutes on setup alone in the application - in general this product is not for mass use. Honestly the worst "smart" home product I've ever had

Pros
  • This is awesome
Cons
  • A bad buy for seniors
