I bought 2 individual units + kit of 6 smoke detectors to replace 8 in my home. Dreading the fact that I would have to reconnect all 8 and thankfully opened up one of the individual units first and found an adapter to connect it to the previous unit's wiring harness. This saved me a lot of time as in just 2-3 minutes I was able to pull out the old one, remove the base, screw in the new base, insert the adapter and fit the smoke alarm into the base. However, when I opened the contractor's package, I found that it contained only a fixed wiring harness, no adapter to connect to the old wiring harness. I had considered simply connecting the other 6 smoke detectors manually, but fortunately I talked myself out of it and ordered adapters. The best $20 I've spent in a long time!
