Excellent and affordable USB-C / Thunderbolt adapter; 4K/60Hz video if you have DP 1.4 output

I have the latest model of high end Dell laptop that ONLY has 4 Thunderbolt ports (similar to USB -C) has. Therefore, to use a laptop with any legacy peripheral or with an external monitor, you need a USB-C adapter like this one. There are a TON of these types of adapters at Revain. Some cost up to three hundred dollars. I wanted something small and cheap for my laptop bag. I had specific requirements: 1) three USB-A ports 2) one HDMI port with 4K/60Hz capability and a DisplayPort 1.4 compatible connection. This confirms the presence of three USB 3.0 r1 (5Mbps) ports, plus an HDMI port that outputs 4K/60Hz video if (and only if) your USB-C connection supports DisplayPort 1.4. Please note that many (probably most) USB-C ports do not yet support this type of video. In this case, 4K/30Hz is best supported. Also, if your USB-C port doesn't support an alternate video mode, you won't get any video at all. Check with the manufacturer again. If your laptop does not support an alternate video mode, the USB ports will work but the HDMI port will not. This adapter is useful, but not magic. I tested it and it works great with my laptop with Thunderbolt 3. Problem solved - and at a very reasonable price. Note that it also supports USB-C Power Pass-Through. So if your laptop supports pass-through power delivery, you can plug it into a USB-C port and then plug the USB-C power adapter into a USB-C port on the hub. Please note that this only supports connecting a power adapter up to 100W. This is adequate for many laptops, but not some of the largest/most powerful. Another comment: many of these cheap hubs only have two USB ports and then either an Ethernet port or a memory card reader. I'm sure some people need Ethernet or a card reader, but in my experience having three USB ports is far more useful. Recommended.
