I bought this item to keep my dog warm during the winter months. Being located in the mid-Atlantic region, they are characterized by snow and cold weather. When I received the product, I noticed its solid construction. It may seem expensive, but it's well made. I opened the box, put it on the counter and pocketed it. I made sure the thermostat was off and turned it on. I heard the thermostat click and the unit turned on and began to heat up quickly. Few minutes of that new oily smell as it warms up, but it quickly dissipates. The device gets lukewarm, I mean warm. The top and front are warm/hot while the bottom is cool to the touch. I ran it on my meter with the thermostat on max for about 1 hour. By the way, the thermostat basically only controls the on or off position. When it's on, it's on, there's no half heat or 30%. On or off. It has a built in temperature controller built into the thermostat so that if the temperature is low it will not turn on until the temperature has dropped to a minimum and a high setting will cause the unit to turn on at a higher outside temperature. After burning, I connected the device to a P400 Kill-a-Watt device to check power consumption. I was shocked to see the very low power consumption. A very nice bonus for the buyer. When switched on, the device consumes 1.3 amps. Given that your iPad charges at 2.1 amps and your Kuerig coffee maker draws nearly 12 amps, this was a pleasant surprise. I installed the device very easily. I am pleased that my dog is able to withstand winter conditions with a dog heater installed in his kennel. Tomorrow evening the temperature should drop to +20, so I'll keep a close eye on the device. I will provide updates as I check the outside temp vs the inside temp of the kennel. As a side note, I insulated the walls of the kennel with 1 1/2" thick foam board. I didn't insulate the ceiling, but I can do it. how do I track the work. same for the front door. update: the unit has been running since 1 week and I have the following entries: I turned the thermostat to "Medium". The night temperature dropped to 38 and the house was cool 45. I thought it would be a bit chilly so I turned the thermostat between "" medium" and "high". The other night the temperature was 38 again and at home 54. This morning the outside temperature was 28 and at home 47. I don't think the house would be much warmer without additional insulation such as ceiling insulation and installing one I bought an infrared temperature sensor (I also have a wireless indoor doghouse thermometer that helps me monitor the inside temperature) to take the temp of the Hound heater when it's on, unit r also 175 degrees!
