Review on Partol Carburetor 1600Cc Volkswagen Engines by Robby Fingaw

Revainrating 2 out of 5

May be! I had a lot of issues putting this thing on, including getting used to it and shedding it.

1970 Chevy Nova L6 250cu. It took me a while to try and install this. after. It's also a more modern version of the Monojet than my car, so I had to rebuild the throttle, install a new return spring, and install a new air cleaner bolt. Haven't connected an e-choke yet (at the moment only connected to the battery to warm up). When I opened the box a while ago I didn't look closely, just opened it to make sure it was the right one. Yesterday (now well past the return window) I started putting it on. All the levers and brackets on the throttle side are bent in towards the carburetor body, the idle mix screw is also slightly bent. I also noticed obvious signs of trying to install once, but I'm not sure if it ever ran. There was no seal in the box. The box was in pretty bad shape so I'm not sure when this thing dropped. For three trips or for the first installation. After welding the throttle to the shaft (since it was no longer tight to the shaft) and bending everything back into shape, I set it up and fired like it should, so I had to modify the bracket. It wasn't a difficult decision. It was running really well up until the warm up (still needs work on the choke) but seems to be doing really well after that. Did a quick idle adjustment and did a quick scroll (works surprisingly well). Came home and made several attempts to fix the idle mixture while it was loading and pouring out after a minute or two of idling, but no luck. This is probably due to a bent mixture screw. Very frustrated having to fix this and hoping I'm not wasting my time on a bad part from a supplier. Given at least 2 stars because it did so well in the test. Disc. Need some time to play around with it today and will be updated. I'll do some basic ignition work just to be sure.

Pros
  • Brings joy
Cons
  • The list will be long.
