I am very happy with these measuring spoons. They are convenient to use in any container. I was a bit worried about the ring but actually it's easier to get the spoon I want than the pearl necklace on our other new spoons (local specialty store) because the necklace keeps getting tangled and has broken on occasion. good cooking. requires fairly accurate measurements of salt, spices, etc. In response to my question, the manufacturer says they are checked regularly for accuracy and should be within +/- 5%, which is close enough for my kitchen. I noticed that our other new spoons obviously hold a different amount than our very old stamped aluminum spoons. As a retired mechanical engineer, I had to test this. Using salt as a test material, I've found that other new spoons last anywhere from half to nearly twice as long as stamped aluminum spoons. Not knowing which ones were right, I decided to buy a third set. Many of the spoon sets shown at Revain look the same as our other new spoons, so I left them out. The wider handles on these spoons indicated that they were of a different design. Of course, they were more like the old aluminum ones than the newer ones. These spoons have vertical sides all the way around, making it a lot easier to get the amount you thought. Getting these vertical sides requires more dies, which means they have to go through more manufacturing processes, which in turn means they're more expensive to produce. Wide-tipped handles make them sturdier, preventing spatter, but widening them also requires more material and, at the very least, makes stamping more difficult, if not elsewhere in the manufacturing process. Despite this cost, they cost about the same as everyone else. The main differences are 1) they're much more accurate than the competition and 2) because they're made of stainless steel, dishwashing detergent won't eat them up like aluminum.
