these are very thin plates and they sound like crackling hard plastic. We tested the residual heat statement by placing it on an electric blanket and placing a blanket on top. so very little heat was transferred from the electric blanket to the blanket above, and the Mylar blanket itself was cool to the touch. So for the emergency thermal protection I would give them a full five stars but these comforters are not very big so an average sized man can't wrap himself completely in the comforter. and bloody noise. Every little movement and crackle of plastic, but if you're freezing that might not be the most important thing on the list. I rolled and smoothed them out as best I could and there were no tears, but look at that smooth finish before you use it because that's the last time you'll see it like this. Again, I'd give it five stars for durability versus its thickness, and where I draw the line is size.
