When I was a beginner I saw my apprentice using them and was amazed not only by how accurate they were but also that they didn't require a button or sound. Back then I was using the squeaky cricket type and it quickly became apparent how sensitive my tester was and how much of a problem it was. The audio isn't appropriate for helpdesk calls due to noise pollution, and my tester was overly sensitive, picking up voltage within 6 inches of the cord. When inspecting a junction box or even an auxiliary gutter, it is very important to know exactly which wire is faulty and trust me, having used it as an apprentice for 2.5 years, this tester has saved me from many knocks of ours 120v friend preserved. Its lack of sensitivity makes it ideal for determining which wire is hot, even if the two identified hot wires are an inch apart. Although the rule of thumb is to never bet all your chips or life on a tick tester when determining if the chain is truly dead. If I were in Vegas I would put all my chips on this tester before anyone else. Another apprentice, almost a journeyman, Trent.
