Review on πŸš› Barn Door Aluminum Underbody Truck Box - Buyers Products 1705205 Diamond Tread, 18 x 18 x 36 Inch by Mike Wallace

Good quality, doors leaking

Haven't used them on a truck yet but was initially impressed with the solid quality. Fully welded edges and corners (Tacks visible on the inside are assembly only and 100% weldable on the outside; What I can't fix is well done (good edges, folds, welds, squareness, materials, etc.)) ; Cardboard boxes arrived with a door damaged on the edges from a silly knock but too minor to return. Boxes arrived with the doors quite misaligned, but once adjusted it's no wonder they can get out of alignment during shipping. One side of the hinge is welded/riveted to the door and the other side of the hinge is secured with six 1/4 inch stainless steel screws and nylon locknuts. DO YOURSELF AND INCREASE SECURITY BY ADDING A WASHER TO PREVENT THE HINGE FROM BREAKING OFF! Hardly any more holes and one had already pulled the hinge on arrival. I added washers to make tearing off the hinges/doors much harder (have to replace the screws with 3 long stainless steel screws/4 inch. Actually I wouldn't scold the company because it was an easy $45 upgrade and they do more charged than paying a laborer to fit it.In the photos the pads look like a cheap styrofoam strip but they are actually rubber pads (although compressed to a flat state.) With the way the doors open close/snap there is about an inch that is unsealed but I don't expect or need them for a car Overall I'm sure I'll be buying more from the same line and don't mind replacing the doors for the correct fit.I am also planning to replace the locks with a higher security M3 (LSDepot) to compare with my other security locks for convenience in. than I can trust to store delicate tools and gear that need to be kept dry. The barn doors appear to be well sealed, but in fact even a tiny crack lets water through. I can try adjusting the spacers or more likely moving them to a trailer or storage garage upstairs which seems like a shame. Cannot be recommended for tools that can rust or consumables that need to stay dry. No work box is as tight as a rigid car frame and double-sealed door. This is not a real hit for this brand, product or design. Now I have to drill drainage holes in the bottoms of drawers, keep tools out of drawers, and use large plastic containers to keep things dry.

Pros
  • Shipping was very quick
Cons
  • Crumpled
