I used 5 of these on about 50 acres. Once you set them up, the range is amazing and the UniFi control system is great. Once you set them up. Since I'm deploying remote devices, I do the initial setup on the main router before deploying. This is proving difficult. Here's what I found works for both meshed and wired uplinks. 1) Open the packaging and connect the device to your network via Ethernet. UniFi will recognize it and ask you to accept it and update the firmware. 2) Once the firmware update is complete, perform a factory reset (a useful paperclip) on the device so it forgets it has a wired connection. 3) Turn off the device and come back. to the UniFi interface. Go to device configuration and select "Forget this device". If you don't, UniFi will force you to connect and disconnect indefinitely after, say, getting your device on the top of a water tank. Sigh. 4) Deploy the device anywhere you want (wired or wireless) and UniFi will rediscover it. Then you can bring it to the network. It takes a while to accept the wireless connection, about 5 minutes. Wired connection is faster. 5) Then make any other desired configuration changes. If you skip the Forget Device step, you will not be able to connect the device to the network or perform any configuration. Please note that the device must be disconnected from the network in order to access the "Forget device" menu item. If it's still in a dead loop trying to connect, the "Forget device" option isn't available. This is an unusual usage model and Ubiquiti should make it much easier. I returned the device before I figured it all out. I assumed it was defective because it wouldn't connect to a wired or wireless network after a factory reset.
