Easy to install on MX-5. Sounds great

Installed on my 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata in under 30 minutes. According to the documents in the box, 2-3 hp are declared, but you don't notice a big difference. The best part is the sound that comes from under the hood. It produces an incredibly deep, rich, breathy tone for a quad. Only if you really step on the gas so that there is no drone at all. It was worth every penny. I find myself depressing the pedal more often.

No noticeable HP, BUT PHENOMENAL SOUND!

To be honest, there is almost no increase in horsepower, but that's why you shouldn't buy it. THIS THING SOUNDS AMAZING! Not a cheap rice sound, but a full, deep growl that's rare on Miata. Would definitely buy again just because my 99NB sounds so much better. It's almost as easy as Tower Brace and took me about 15 minutes, and to be honest it's one of the most useful mods just for its phenomenal snappy sound!

Good sound - filter

To be honest, I just wanted sound. I have one on a stock Miata 10AE engine from '99. At idle and on normal/restricted driving it's as quiet as stock. Accelerate at higher speeds and the beautiful intake sounds will begin. The more throttle (with load), the nicer the sound (and the volume increases). I love driving through tunnels, putting in some gears and hearing him sing! I wouldn't recommend it if you prefer stealth. The quality is top notch, as is the ease of installation. Perfomance…

  • Questionable purchase for seniors

Not as aggressive as I was hoping. This is on a 1999 Mazda MX-5 so obviously your mileage may vary. I had one on a 1995 Bronco and it sounded fantastic. I think you should consider the source material. It looks very nice and in theory I will never have to buy another air filter again. I have to say the quality from K&N is second to none and they fully support their products. If you are looking for an air intake with minimal fuss, great looks and functionality, 4.5 stars. Growl Hiss!: Replacement parts

I'm fed up with my 1999 Mazda Miata and other reviewers have also commented on how much fun it is to growl the underhood air intake rather than just a loud, annoying exhaust. It's expensive, but it decorates the engine bay and it's nice to step on the gas (you really hear it at low revs under some load). In general, I got more aggressive with the throttle just for the sake of the intake. They claim that this gives a performance boost. I don't think so, and if you do, you won't notice. An…

AMAZING TRANSFORMATION!

This is my fourth Miata and I've done cold air intakes before, but this time I decided to spend the extra bucks and go for the best, K&N. Boy am I glad I did! This kit is absolutely fantastic. EVERYTHING you need is amazing, step by step instructions and it fits my 2001 limited edition like a glove. The transformation is amazing in more ways than one. 1st is the tone. Doesn't matter! It really growls under acceleration and it just makes me smile and that's what the Miata is all about. Second…

Except amazing! in the air intake

I installed it on my Miata in about an hour. I don't have access to a dynamometer so I can't confirm the HP gain, but it definitely runs faster and more responsive at higher RPM! Absolutely beautiful, scratchy engine sound at high loads, no additional noise (compared to the standard vehicle) when cruising. The fuel consumption also seems to have improved slightly. Caution: Do not whistle very loudly up to high speeds (4k-6.5k). That being said, the build quality is excellent and feels very…

Adds a throaty growl to the 1.8-liter MX-5, great build quality.

My Typhoon has been installed on my 1999 MX-5 for about 3 months. Installation was easy; Anyone with a bit of under the hood experience should be able to easily remove the intake manifold and install it in an hour or less. The included instructions are vehicle specific making it almost reliable. While the price is steep and performance gains are minimal at best, it offers nice hardware in the engine bay. Since dyno testing (under ideal conditions) only adds 2-3 horsepower, it definitely won't…
