The foldable outer arm makes loading easier and the long arms are wide adjustable. Our 2017 Subaru Outback has built-in cross members that limit the width of the load. Getting the struts to provide separation and the angle to support the torso was a challenge. We tried fixed J stands, Malone kickstands, and two other options until we came across these. Lifting kayaks onto the roof becomes more difficult as they age, aided by the folding of the external loading arm.

Much easier to assemble than I thought. The folding feature (unlike any others I've found) allows me to get into my garage without banging on the door (my kayak doesn't fit but has nothing to do with the trunk). I get out of the garage, turn around, load the kayak, thread in two ratchet straps, fasten the front and back: done. It will probably take 5 minutes. I'll probably put it away for the winter (it's easy to roll nuts in it), but it's small enough that I won't have to worry when kayaking…

Clamps do not work on GM flat bars. Just like the stand itself. The problem is that the rack comes with angle clamp bars that are designed to mount to a round bar, not GM Suburban or Tahoe flat bars. There is no way to tighten them enough so that they don't hang out. I'll try replacing the V-shaped metal brackets with flat ones. I use racks to hold large roof top tents and apart from the roof rack connector I love this product. If you have round roof rails this should work great.

These shelves did not live up to expectations at all. I ordered two sets and they looked completely different. One had extra support on the back, the other didn't. One folded flat and the other's "teeth" didn't line up to fold flat. Both showed signs of rust on my car after a short time. After contacting support they simply said to send it back to Revain. First impressions are pretty good. The brackets fit my 1x2 T-Nut roof rack without modification. Flat plates may be the best option, but it's not necessary at this stage. The weak points seem to be the straps and I'm sure the foam won't last long in the Arizona sun. I may update this review after some use if my mind changes or something needs to be mentioned. I installed a luggage rack on my 2021 Rav4 Prime Toyota that came with a roof rack. It was quick and easy to install. I've only used it once so far. All metal parts and locking mechanisms are very durable. I was able to load and tie down my 16 foot fiberglass kayak very easily.
