Defective Item in Pumps

I ordered this power steering pump last year after diagnosing my truck with stiff steering. I finally got around to installing it and when I installed it I filled it with the needed power steering fluid. Unfortunately, right out of the box, this pump is inferior to the original. Very disappointed.

  • Always Liked
Cons

Fits LBZ trucks: Pumps

Although AMZ says this pump doesn't fit LBZ trucks, it actually does (perfectly). This is a 12 vane pump used in trucks after 2007.5 and up (LMM). The original LBZ pump has 10 vanes. If you are using larger tires than stock, this pump can help with steering. Please note that this is an AC Delco product marked 'Made in China' and therefore 4 stars.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Fits

Works great for 2004.5 LLY Duramax

This is an improved design and works better than what GM specifies for my truck. Unlike the original, this model allows you to brake and turn the steering wheel at the same time when the engine is idling (imagine wanting to do this multiple times!). I'm only deducting 1 star because I sometimes hear a slight squeak (although my wife doesn't hear it). In fact, I don't mind whining a little! Another reviewer suggested using only genuine GM power steering fluid, but I just use plain old cheap…

Pros
  • Positive only
Cons
  • Almost everything is there

Good pump but steering problem

The pump is as advertised and puts out 1290 pounds at 3 gpm and 1500 rpm that I measured. It's a 12-vane pump, but that doesn't have much of an advantage. What I don't know without taking it apart is that it's a Type 185 pump with deeper vanes and a domed cap. Deeper blades give higher idle power. My problem with the steering is that at low speed the steering locks up on the brakes (there is power steering). Foot off the brake and the steering returns. Update 7/15/22, I took the pump apart to…

12 vanes, 5/32 connection, high pressure valve.

This is the 2008-10 LMM Duramax version. I opened the block and examined it. It's new and yes, it's from China. This is a retailer version without a prescription, I even checked the GM labels on the box and on the pump. This is a 12 vane pump with a 5/32" fluid port and the highest pressure outlet valve (factory). It's fully sealed, no shims but no inner shim just on the spring. The body of the canister is galvanized. . The magnet is located inside the housing next to the pump's fluid inlet to…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Disappears

I bought this new design pump for my 2003 Chevy K2500hd 4x4 LB7 Duramax even though the Revain install manual said it wouldn't fit. The tech dealer told me this is the latest pump design for newer trucks but would fit right on 2001 Duramax trucks. The difference with this new pump is that it is a 12 tooth pump instead. of 10 splines in the old design and a newer valve arrangement for rotational support at low speeds. I was skeptical but desperate after trying remanufactured old design pumps. I…

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • Blunt hardware
