I had a similar plastic holder that worked fine. Until the plastic around the tripod attachment point failed. I don't want to risk the welfare of my iPad so I bought this mount. Its all metal construction is what I look for in any gear that will stand the test of time and not break in half like a lot of cheap crap you find at Revain. I'VE RUN SO MANY HOLDERS THAT THEY ARE NOT SHOWN! This one is very strong! I'm pretty sure the protective liners will fail long before the metal fails. When I first got this I couldn't figure out how to get it all the way out which drove me a little crazy.
