Purchased in June 2015. I've used it maybe 3 times since then. It's dead today, and to replace the batteries, the website says it needs to be sent in. I can disassemble it myself to try replacing the battery, but I'll most likely find a better one. Reduced from 2 to 1 run due to the price paid. Make sure that you buy a device whose batteries you can change yourself.

I bought these 3 years ago and have only used them a few times. I picked it up today to use it and found that the battery was completely dead (or just broken I don't know). As for usability and accuracy, I don't know. My cats really didn't like it when I tugged on their ears to set the thermometer at the right angle, so I'm not sure I ever had a correct temperature. I'm throwing it in the trash looking for a replacement that is less invasive, durable and allows me to replace my own battery…

I use it on cats and kittens and humans too. I've done a few comparisons with a mercury thermometer and it's accurate to 1/10th of a degree (or maybe it's absolutely accurate and my mercury thermometer is off)! Either way, it tells you what you need to know: Is there a mildly elevated temperature, or an alarmingly high temperature that warrants a visit to the vet or doctor?
