Good but needs a bit of tweaking

I'm an HVAC technician and I use this on residential and commercial evaporator coils. This product works pretty well and seems to be durable but the biggest problem is that there is nothing to hold the comb head in place so it slips when you try to use it. Definitely not for everyday use but if you need it for a project it's amazing, especially for the price. Project Tip: Use tape to hold the bracket in place, but honestly we don't have to.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Reliability

Simple and effective tool for reshaping curved radiator fins

I watched a few videos before purchasing this tool. Finding the right size for my conditioner was easy. The tool quickly straightened the bent ribs. I made a video for my son that may be too big to attach. Despite dozens of hailstorms hitting my fins, I was able to fix almost all of my fins in about 15 minutes. The tool still looks new and I expect it to last a year if I use it once or twice a year. Highly recommended !

Pros
  • Heavy duty
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Unfortunately it didn't work for me

I ordered this to (hopefully) straighten the AC condenser fins on my trucks. Unfortunately it didn't work at all. None of the ridges seemed to have the right "fins per inch" and they all seemed too thick anyway. It didn't work with my transmission cooler either. It might work better on a larger heatsink, but I can't confirm. Nothing against the product, it seems like a good product, it just didn't work for me so I gave it 4 stars anyway. But. You know what worked for me. one of those littleโ€ฆ

Works well if you are careful enough and use this trick

I had an air conditioner with a couple badly broken ribs on spool A and I was making passes with an old credit card, rib at a time from the edge of the undamaged ones Areas "in the " broken area to smooth out severely crushed fins, then using this heatsink fin comb to "fine tune" the fins is a slow but sure way to get the job done. Problems with chipping fin teeth - If the fins are broken so badly that the fin crest won't go through, use an old credit card or similar hard, flat plastic (eg fins

Wears out very quickly

I bought this trowel and a Robinair 18403 trowel to flatten the fins on my 20 year old RV air conditioner. About 30% of all fins have been bent by hail over the years. My finned capacitor measures about 12" x 24". First, it's not a miracle tool. It takes time and effort to get a job done. Second, severely curved slats are not straightened. Finally, these combs are disposable as they wear out very quickly. If you order the Allstar ALL10680 Radiator Flange Kit only use it on the edges when needed

  • GOLS certified

  • Can't remember

Works but has difficulties

The fins on my outdoor air conditioner have been damaged by hail. While the air conditioner is running, bent fins reduce the unit's efficiency, so I bought a fin comb kit to straighten them. The product worked as advertised but the job is much harder than shown in some videos online. To summarize my observations: 1. This was the only product I found that had reasonably small tooth spacing. Most of them only have 15 tpi combs while I've found that I need 20 tpi for my device. You will need toโ€ฆ

  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Does not fit all
