Bought several FRX1s and would buy them again

I just bought my 3rd FRX1 as a gift for my son when they went back under $20 at Revain. Sure, you could get a transistor radio with slightly better FM or AM reception. But with the combination of NOAA weather stations, a removable battery (in case it should ever fail), an LED flashlight and a handle, with a device that also charges via USB, well, it's just great electronics just in case that the power goes out, I have to wait. I also wanted to point out that the FRX1's plastic body feels pretty

Re: Great for disaster preparedness

I needed a compact NOAA radio for my grab and go bag. This little gem fits the bill as it stays in the kit unless you really need it. It has good reception, picking up NOAA channels as well as regular radio and also has a flashlight function. For the price you can certainly afford one for the car kit and one for at home. This particular model has no "active alerts" - meaning it won't alert you when a NOAA alert is issued - you have to listen. So your location and the nature of normal disastersโ€ฆ

It seems interesting but also disappointing

cool radio. But it's only cool for me since I haven't had a radio for decades. AM band not working. Cannot receive a single station although it receives many FM stations. I live in a big urban area and it's hard to believe there is NO radio station here. The selector for different radio modes is a bit cheap, with a barely perceptible click, not smart. I didn't hear any sound from the other bands. The power input for charging includes an odd input that isn't mini-USB, nor does it fit myโ€ฆ

Good buy and reliable little radio.

I bought this radio on sale, about $18. It arrived on time and in new condition. I bought it because it is small, can be charged regardless of the power and its versatility. I read some of the reviews and when it arrived I cranked it at least 60 times. It only picked up a few stations, then I charged it for a few hours and tried again. I can say that charging helped the reception A LOT, as did removing the antenna. The dial is very delicate. I have 2 major cities within 50 miles but didn'tโ€ฆ

This should be in your survival kit or just for a hobby!

I have just received this radio and am very happy with it. Absolutely outstanding radio! The crank seems to hold the power for a very long time. I wound it for about 60 seconds to generate enough current to power the entire device. Hours pass before this power wears off. The light is really bright. It's not very durable. I say that, which means I wouldn't recommend dropping this on concrete or any hard surface. Pros: Cheap!, good amount of frequencies that can be picked up by this guy, smallโ€ฆ

Eton frx1 vs eton nfr160

At this price point the frx1 has a plastic body and the 160 has a rubber body. The 160's solar charging pad has been replaced with a micro-USB on the frx1, which is an improvement for me. I know it's fully charged for travel after plugging into an old computer. Too bad they didn't have a battery option either. The knob is a bit looser on the cheaper frx1, and the button to change stations and the AM, FM and weather dial are much better at 160. If you put all the keys together, there is a higher

Great little radio I've had it for 2 years now

Great little radio I've had it for 2 years now I haven't had to buy new batteries I've used before using it for maybe 6 hours or more a day I live in the Sokal and need to orient it east to west to get the best indoor reception for AM stations. I paid 14.99 for mine, I wanted the black one but it was the cheapest. 2 or 3 hours at a time, at least once every two weeks. more info after 2 years of use due to low battery no reception 1 minute cranking gave me 1 hour of use before volume got veryโ€ฆ

A step in the wrong direction but still good

I have bought three of these handheld radios/torches in the past, two are also from Eton and the third is another brand. My Etons were almost identical to this Etรณn American Red Cross ARCFR160WXR Microlink Radio with AM/FM/NOAA and Self Powered with Flashlight, Solar Power and Cell Phone Charger (Red), except it's a bit older. I loved my two little Eton radios. It lasted a decade of regular use. The commemorative was great too, although it was a bit behind in many areas. My cute little Eton'sโ€ฆ
