Thin, good chip inside, great cable - what's not to like?

I'm a fan of Ankers products, especially iPhone cables. Everything seems very well designed and they definitely stand behind their products. When buying a case I wanted something with the latest bridge controller chip and it was a good size (compact). It also had to be good at dissipating heat, which should be factored into your research as the chips get hot on large gears. During the large transfer I needed (2TB Samsung) the case got very hot and the transfer rate dropped from around 600MB/sโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Works well but poor thermal design for large write volumes.

I bought this to help transfer around 1TB of files to the SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB. I transferred about 1TB of photos from a portable drive to this drive. The transfer rate was limited by the portable drive, so I didn't test the case on that, but that makes the next point worse. Every 50-100GB, the device will shut down due to overheating to protect the Samsung drive. I ended up using a damp rag to reduce the heat generated by this unit and that seemed to help, but it still overheated fromโ€ฆ

HOT! The cable also has issues with Apple Hardware

Great looking case and solid construction. You should know that USB 3.1 Gen 2 is used here, which has a maximum speed of 10 Gbps, which is about 1000 MB / s. You'll pay about three times as much for a Thunderbolt 3 (40Gb/s) enclosure that can get the most out of this drive. I have a Samsung 970 Evo 1TB installed which can read at around 3500MB/s. Of course, I rode with the knowledge that I wasn't expecting full speed. What surprised me is that the case is too hot to touch during use even though

Losing connection with Mac

I had high hopes for the Anker brand. But it didn't work with my M1 Mac and Intel Mac. Overall impression: 1. Easy to install2. Good cable that can work with both USB A and USB C3. Professional looking case. Issue: After installing a critical NVME drive in the Anker enclosure, I was able to quickly connect to my Mac M1 and download a 100GB file through the enclosure. However, after I removed and reconnected the drive, my M1 and Intel Mac no longer showed the drive. Mac saw Realtek chipset overโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Not the best

Great compromise between speed and size

TL/DR -Good: Fast transmission, compact, versatile. connect to a Samsung Note 10. I ordered two of these and installed a 1TB Samsung 970evo on each. Burying it was easy, just check for proper orientation when inserting the disc. I've found that if you turn it upside down it slides about halfway with no resistance, and with a little extra effort you can probably get it there to go too far and get stuck. Heat from heavy use, very similar to the heat generated by high-speed flash drivesโ€ฆ

  • Feels good
