Wish it had lasted a year

Purchased late November 2019, came out late February 2020. Most of our network filters last one year. This one was the most disappointing. We had heavy rain for weeks, the electricity went out, came back right away, but the internet connection (phone line) was broken.

Pros
  • Hands free
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Easy to install, works well

I chose this surge protector because it has a lot of joules and phone jacks for my landline phone. It also has multiple ports for connecting other electrical devices. It's nice to have handy on a wall outlet without the added clutter and cords on the floor of a typical surge protector. You also know it's working when the green light is on. One day when it goes out and the red light comes on, you'll have to replace it because it used up all of its joules, but it's been working hard for you to…

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Perfect! Highly recommended!

I live in an area of Florida that is called the capital of light. In four years I had 2 nearby lightning strikes that caused a power surge and shorted out my internet router. So I decided to backup my 3rd router. I wasn't sure if the surge was coming from electrical wires or phone lines. (Since nothing else was damaged, I was inclined to believe it was the phone lines.) This product covers both situations. We've had several big storms and one that I was really concerned about, but not a single…

Pros
  • understandable even for the old
Cons
  • bad instructions

Nice block - adds sockets

Lots more sockets than usual and handy for wall hobs etc. It sits behind the TV in the kitchen and protects two telephones and an answering machine along with the TV. Phone line protection is becoming difficult to find. Yes, some of us are stuck ashore with wired phones. APC is trustworthy. I'll update this when the next lightning strike destroys the phones!

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Expensive

Thank goodness I ordered 2 for the first time so I had a spare to get it working again straight away. I just ordered a third one as a backup for next time. The neighbor said they saw lightning strike my house yesterday - a fuse in the phone socket on the outside wall had blown, my VCR in the living room and the DVR unit in the bedroom were off. The sound was like a bomb going off. I'm so happy my expensive phones are safe I'm ready to cry :=))

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
  • Some little things

Doesn't work with AT&T UVerse

Purchased to install AT&T DSL (formerly UVerse). Surge is green, no problem. Connected to an RJ11 (telephone) jack and DSL does not work. When tested, the product works with modems but not with the 4-wire option. Further investigation found two wires only on the "Equipment" and "In RJ-11 jacks" connectors. So the product I bought specifically to service the AT&T DSL modem is useless. I will repurpose it for something else, but not buying it as a 4-wire RJ-11 security device. It's useless for…

Protected our equipment from phone line surges

UPDATE January 11, 2020 A severe storm in Texas hit the phone lines again. This kid saved our modem and phone. I returned to buy my third device. So now I can say that they have worked for us twice. I highly recommend it. ORIGINAL REVIEW An item that you buy and hope you never use. Our property was struck twice by lightning in 2018. We blasted an electric phone and 2 modems/routers. So we finally got smart and protected everything from overvoltage. All of our outbursts have come over phone…

burned. on power strips and surge protector

I have six outlets and phone line protection. I had him for about a year when he finally had to make the final sacrifice. It burned out, emitting black smoke, and as it stalled, it made a hissing sound. The copper wire in my phone line has melted through the insulation in several places, lots of black and lots of stink. It was one hell of a bolt of lightning that rocked our house, but the defender did his job, and fast enough. I had no other damage other than changing the phone line and wiping…

Pros
  • Designed for 2 outlet configuration. The center screw securely secures the unit to the wall or can be removed by carefully removing the red washer on the back of the unit.
Cons
  • Weak Kit
