I thought it had an alarm feature which would be handy if your heating stopped working in the middle of winter, but haven't figured it out yet. This was an impulse buy for me. I really like it, but here are some things you might want to know: * It's not tiny and doesn't take up much space in a nano tank. I set it on its side.* It reads the water temperature through the glass. There are no sensors in the water. Holds very tight. So to change the battery you have to WAIT the thermometer out of your tank (literally with all your might), replace the battery and then figure out yourself how to put it back in since you just destroyed the sticky pad. I bought this red and black version of this thermometer from another seller. While I like the display, big numbers, and quick setup, this red has one major downside. The battery compartment is kind of crooked, I don't know why, but the battery wobbles, sits too high on the contact behind it, and therefore the lid is very difficult to close.
