Type of review

I originally received this product and requested a return which was quickly approved. I could go into detail, but I'll be brief and concise. Today I came home and just caught 60 dead fish due to a sharp jump in water temperature above 20 degrees. Which POS heater. And yes, I'm sending it back now. Thanks for nothing.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Some small things

Works very well with aquarium heaters

Easy to use, good accuracy although you may need to fine tune the settings for your aquarium. Set at 80, it keeps my temp at 78 all the time. It's very convenient that the heater controls are outside the tank and it's easy to regulate the temp up or down. I called the company about the negative reviews about "boiled fish" and the rep said there were occasional water shortages. My temperature sensor is next to where water flows out of the filter, it works fine.

UPDATED. However, you need an external probe. everything is OK.

Offset a few degrees. I set the temp to 80⁰ but I have an external thermometer sensor and it never goes above 77.7⁰ which isn't too bad because I still want the actual temp to be around 78⁰. UPDATE: November shopping, now 5 months later it's getting shaky. In November I set 80, never changed. Yesterday my water was 86⁰! I'm lucky that my livestock (especially expensive fish, my starfish, shrimp and anemones) are still alive. Luckily I caught it in time. Make sure you use an OUTDOOR thermometer.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Accurate and reliable.

I used this heater in a 20 gallon NANO reef aquarium. It still works with no problems. It is controlled by an APEX controller and this controller acts as a backup. This device works great with APEX turning the power on and off when the heat needs to be turned on. Settings hold without problems. I assume that if the apex fails, the device will shut down at the set temperature. The included controller is very accurate. I checked the displayed temperature with a certified thermometer and it is…

High failure rate for aquarium heaters and coolers

I am very disappointed in this heater. Despite all the negative reviews I decided to take a chance. It worked great for about 2 weeks and then the heater stopped heating as intended. I had a separate thermometer to monitor this. In just over a month, its accuracy has dropped from 2 degrees, which is within the manufacturer's accuracy limits, to a whopping 20 degrees. I set the heater to 88 and the tank didn't go above 68 degrees. When I took the heater off it fell apart and I had to take pieces

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Only available in black
