Only used 6 months

I put a 300w heater in a 75 gallon aquarium. This capacity is rated for up to 100 gallons. The heater worked flawlessly for six months, then burned out. I expected a lot more durability from this product. I filed a warranty claim today and the company promised to send me a new unit. Their good customer service upgraded my rating from 1 star for product failure to 3 stars for baking their products and solving the problem.

heats water too much

I bought this because my old river water heater was starting to go haywire. When it arrived I looked at it and when I saw it was intact I removed it. A few months later, when the flux heater finally failed after 10+ years, I pulled this piece of crap out. I put the tank in for 6 hours before plugging it in. He heated the water too much. I set it to the lowest setting of 62 and the water is still around 80 degrees. Back late. Don't buy this. Spend more and get a reliable heater.

Works great in my 29 gallons from November 2018

It's May 2021 now so it's been running for 2.5 years. I use a glass thermometer to make sure the temperature stays within an acceptable range and my hands are in the water at least once or twice a week to clean the glass, trim plants, or do other aquarium maintenance, so when the water gets too hot is or too cold, I would have caught him. I can't speak for the water temperature being constant, but water temperature is not inherently constant and slight fluctuations don't seem to bother my fish…

Almost all the fish killed, I will not buy again.

Worked for about a month before I started hearing popping noises. I thought it was just the temperature sensor turning on and off, but it got louder over time and I decided to check it out. As a result, I found 4 chips of 1 cm each in the glass and noticed that it fogged up inside. As far as I know I haven't had enough weeks for this heater to cost me my entire aquarium. I'm looking for better options, preferably without glass. A few notes on my setup: 65g cichlid tank, heavily planted but…

Tick tock, tick tock, pop pop! Do not buy

This heater is fine, it works for me. I keep about 80, but it always seems to be on at least every 5-10, which I don't think is good for power. Invoice. Also note just one "small" issue. And it's like after a month or two, both 300 watt devices, I had started making this ticking noise, I let it go. This went on for another month, and now I'm ready to destroy them both. The tongs are popping and popping now and it scares me because they are sooooo loud and continuous every time the orange light…

Wild temperature fluctuations

I have one of these in my 75 gallon cichlid tank and it seems to be maintaining my temperature +-1*F as advertised. Unfortunately, my 55 gallon tank is a different story. Lately I've noticed the temp has gone up to 82*F, I turn it down and then it never seems to turn on and the tank ends up in the mid 70's at room temperature. There is a strange clicking sound coming from the tank, and the heater normally turns on. I've also noticed that some air bubbles come out of the heater when it's…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Good but not great

Crashes after 7 days

I'm giving it one star for one simple reason; It broke 7 days after receipt. I installed this heater in my tank a week ago and set it to 79°F. After a few days I noticed that the temperature in my aquarium did not rise and the water temperature stayed at around 24°C. I decided the heater needed to be raised a bit to accommodate the 70 or so gallons in my tank, so I cranked it up to 80F around day 3. I think it would help to say I've never had a light have seen. Unless I adjusted the temperature
