It didn't heat up my five gallons and that.

It didn't heat my five gallons and it got too hot (high nineties) in my 1.5 gallons. The safety shutdown did not work. I was lucky it didn't kill the occupants of my tank. I don't know what to do with it. It's too late to return. Maybe there's a tank in between. I won't trust that.

Pros
  • practical item
Cons
  • ok

Has stopped working less than a week after receiving it.

This heater stopped working after 5 days of use. Our little 5 gallon tank dropped to 68 degrees before I gave up and went to our local pet store to buy a replacement heater. Lesson learned: Choose a heater with temperature control and a heater indicator instead.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

Not suitable for small aquariums

I bought this for my .75 gallon Betta aquarium and it heated the water to over 90 degrees before I unplugged it. My beta survived. (I bought a heater because the owner's manual that came with the tank said I needed a heater.) I ended up buying a larger tank and a 25w temperature controlled heater and it works great. I do not recommend this heater for small tanks.

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Not sure

Fish Soup Recipe

I tried to be careful with this after seeing other reviews about overheating of the aquarium water. I almost killed my fish yesterday because I forgot I had it on and left it on for about 3-4 hours. The water was above 81 after rising from 74. I don't leave negative reviews, but this heater is dangerous. And in response to another person's assessment, not a single tank was in the sun or near any other heat source.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Doubtful

The bigger the tank, the better the performance.

This heater is good. I replaced the old one I had which worked pretty well for about 2 years. I had a difficult situation and left the heater plugged in and plugged into the tank. This led to overheating of the device and its failure. Guilty. Do not do that. However, the one I killed always kept my 2.5 gallon tank at the ideal temperature of 72 degrees. This is not a good product to use in a tank under 3 gallons. It gets too hot even with proper circulation. I'm going to buy a bigger tank to…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Upgradeable

I bought this little heater for my Aqueon Betta Falls from a pet store. I quickly realized that this was a very bad choice. Why? It doesn't have a thermostat, it just heats the water. I have 2 thermometers on my betta cases, one at the bottom with a heater and one at the top in a central reservoir. They differ by about 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit. This heater heats water according to the ambient temperature in your room. It was 72 degrees Fahrenheit in my room. This heater heated my betta to 88.9…
