Works great but MAC address already registered

I bought an Arris Surfboard SB6183 (new, shrink-wrapped and all) to stop paying my service provider a monthly modem rental. The device worked great and was easy to install but unfortunately when I returned my old device to CableVision I found that my new SB6183's MAC address was already registered with them so I was still using "their devices" . . They suggested buying the same device from Best Buy to avoid this problem. Apparently, Revain and other third-party providers themselves purchase new

Arris, you really disappoint me!

I also liked the performance and reliability of the Motorola/Arris Surfboard modems. But this last one, SB6183, really changed my mind. Bought it about 8 months ago. About 2 months ago I started losing connections and have to restart it every time. Then last month my download speed suddenly dropped from 10MB to 2MB and sometimes disappeared altogether. (does not seem to affect DL speed). I contacted Arris and they said their remote diagnostics showed that the download signal from the ISP was…

Pros
  • I hold my fists
Cons
  • Very expensive

8/6/2020 Revised - add a star I'm adding a star back, the reason why my SB6183 doesn't support this 600 Mbps, due to a cable leak, Comcast sent a technician to an external cable box and fixed the cable connection problem (reinstall cable connector). It now supports wired connections up to 500Mbps, it's still not 600Mbps but it's getting closer. I would say this cable modem supports 500 Mbps, but no more. I left it 4 stars because the Comcast and Arris websites give conflicting information…

Big difference in response and speed

After I installed it and authorized online in my Optimum, the internet speed was very noticeable. My pages load much faster and YouTube videos etc play much faster. I bought this device to save the $10 a month I had to pay to rent a cable TV modem. I figured if it doesn't affect speed I'll save at least $10 a month. I'm so happy I did. I am very happy with the end result. I should have known that big companies like Cablevision/optimum online do not and will not offer high speed or quality…

Good internet modem to replace your cable company's rental modem

Great cable modem that eliminates the cable company's monthly rent. Ability to download at speeds up to 686MB. Has lots of status indicators on the front so you know what's happening. Can log into the device to determine packet loss, errors, and connection status. This is a simple modem that does its job well. If you pay monthly to Comcast, WOW!, Xfinity or any other company, then this is the device for you. Easy setup. Simply screw the coaxial cable into the coaxial connector, connect the LAN…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Hard to say

Robust cable modem

We currently subscribe to 100 Mbit/s but will be phased out to 300 Mbit/s for our use in the future if we want something up. I wanted a reliable and proven device with our 'medium' speeds and this model has been around for a while and still gets great reviews. It has a solid reputation and is easy to set up (Xfinity/Comcast) - plug, activate, play. (The SB6183 does NOT have a bug-prone Puma chipset.) The only thing I don't like is the lack of mounting options. It is designed to stand on a table

Pros
  • Several competitors
