You get what you pay for.

Unbelievable - ATVM95 ML pen (red, microlinear shape) replaced my ATVM95 E (green, elliptical shape). Installed ML with included cartridge (with color connectors). It's like comparing a luthier-made classical guitar to a factory-made guitar. The ML sound has a wider range of frequencies/harmonics in the audio spectrum. The highs are clear, the mids are fatter, and the bass is fuller, even through my cheap pair of Roland MA-8 stereo monitors hooked up to a direct-drive (wired) AT120X turntableโ€ฆ

Update from Ortofon Red

I received the VM95ML yesterday and spent about 5-7 hours on it. U-Turn Orbit game with acrylic disc and cork mat. The most notable difference with Ortofon 2m Red is that the extreme brightness of the red has disappeared. The tone is more even in frequency. Bass is solid but not overwhelming, highs are crisp but not overly bright, while mids are punchy and punchy. This wagon is a definite upgrade from the 2m red one! In terms of tracking, I played back some of my most hackneyed recordings andโ€ฆ

Something's Wrong Here

How is it possible that my five year old $70 AT100E sounds cleaner, brighter and more reliable than this $170 cartridge? The AT-MV95ML sounds flat and muddy. However, it is warmer and more powerful than the AT100E. To narrow it down, if I only had to keep one of the two cartridges I would go with the AT100E. The only advantage of the AT-VM95ML is the standard Microline stylus. And while the AT100E comes with a standard elliptical stylus, it can be swapped out for a Shibata or Microline stylusโ€ฆ

Very good cartridge for the money

Very good cartridge. I basically wanted to try the new mounting system to see if it would be easier. Boy is it always a great sounding pickup! The ML stylus fits into the groove and truly reproduces the sound of your vinyl. The bass is deep, not muddy, and the mids and highs are very clear. And it sits deep enough in the groove that scratches on the surface are barely visible. The improved cartridge holder is great and makes it super easy to use. I've had AT cartridges for many years (I'm 68)โ€ฆ

  • The list is long.

Wow. It really gets to the point. LAUGH OUT LOUD. I've almost given up trying to get really great sound out of my vinyl. But on first listen, even in somewhat raw, unspoiled condition, this cassette is just brilliant. She played her "difficult" record. The one who always had a nasty hiss when he heard a hiss. No, nothing but clean, punchy highs. They'll probably soften up after listening to a dozen or so records. It sweeps away everything I could get from my old Stanton 681eee. Probably justโ€ฆ
