Worked great! for tool kits

Works like a charm! Brakes are like new with new seals. You can find good guides online to guide you through this process. I just ordered another one for my rear brakes on my Avid Elixir R brakes. It's a bit of a hassle, but cheaper than buying new brakes or taking them to a bike shop!

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers

  • Some cons

Extend the Life of Your Brakes Avid

If you find that your calipers bind too often and you need to bleed more than every 4 months, this kit will breathe new life into your brakes. Works like new after installation. See the Avid website for detailed instructions. The item was shipped on time and well packaged.

Good kit, piston o-rings worked well

Good kit, piston o-rings worked well although I did find a small leak afterwards but they don't actually have an o-ring that does that would actually fit inner caliper half offset. You must stretch one to complete the job. That's bad enough, you've heard the Avis Elixir brakes bleed the worst, but finding all the parts mismatch adds to the frustration.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Only available in white

1 more o-ring could have been used

Great little kit. My only complaint is that it should have had a replaceable o-ring for both exhaust port screws. These o-rings wear out every time you bleed the brakes and are so tiny that many places don't have them. I had no trouble removing the pistons. I just squeezed the brake lever until they almost popped out on their own. If one expands more than the other, push it back in until both almost pop out, then keep pumping until one pops out. The second was extended enough that I could pullโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Test for a year
Cons
  • Can't remember

What You Need to Bleed Your Brakes Avid Elixer

If you do a little research, you'll find all sorts of bleeding and performance issues with Avid Elixir brakes. I've come to the conclusion that every time you upgrade your Avid calipers, you need to redo the seals to get that new feel. I've tried bleeding and filling so many times but the results have been lackluster. Maybe the rubber they use just isn't durable or something, I'm not sure. But every time I've cleaned the calipers inside and out with brake cleaner and replaced the seals, I haveโ€ฆ
