Something like this is needed to maintain and sharpen hook knives or slotting knives. You don't have to buy one, you can just do something, but it's nice to be able to sharpen and true in one easy-to-use device, and it's a quality device with the right angles for most curved blades. .

This was a great addition to my arsenal of carving tools. Very well built and works great. I give this product five points for complete satisfaction after purchase and use. My only suggestion for improvement is a slider in the sandpaper holders. Maybe there is some kind of rubber coating or even rubber inserts to hold them in place and stay in place of the grooves. If it's an upgrade, it gets an A+

While this is primarily advertised to carving tool users, it also shines when used on curved blades. If you have unusually shaped knives (karambit, recurve, kukri, etc.) then this is a real must buy. The curved dressing surface makes it easy to sharpen curved edge segments, and the sandpaper side makes it easy to sharpen moderate dullness. The kit included two pieces of medium grit sandpaper and some sling compound. Overall very well done.

I would like to order the advertised polishing paste, which is not included in my order. The idea of using very thin whet paper has been known for a long time. Then just sling it smooth. None of the new ideas and this spatula works well for quick work to keep rounded chisels etc sharp preferably two edges flat one side with paper the other side with straps. This would make this rounded blade more versatile. The paddle is very strong and strong, unlikely to break.

I really wanted this to work but no I never managed to build it. It comes with no instructions or drawings on how to insert the sandpaper into the 1/4" slot and the square stick to push the paper into the slot. I tried for 20 minutes and nothing worked for me. I have 15 years long sharpened hook knife without this poorly constructed contraption and I think I can modify it to use coarse and fine putty and toss the sandpaper in the bin. Excellent overall for sharpening and trueing most curved instruments. There are two little things that make me give it 4 stars. First, the concave parts have a large curvature, so not all tools are suitable. Of course this will always be the case as there is no such thing as a curve that will fit every tool and I am sure they have chosen one that will fit most of their tools. It was a good idea and I think it's still good in a way. This is a decent sling and has a curved end. The reason I docked it to two stars was how to attach sandpaper to it. You get these two pieces of wood and then you need to pull the sandpaper taut and push in. There is also a rolling technique. You will see it in the instructions or some YouTube videos. The problem is that even if you get it right, the wooden blocks to be rubbed take the place of the sandpaper. Don't stay tense and jump out.
