Works with iPad Air 2 using Lightning extension cable

I'm using a Lightning extension cable (not Apple) with a Belkin ethernet adapter (black cable in pictures) and it goes both data as well as via electricity. I have an official Apple 12W power adapter connected to the Belkin adapter itself. When using AT&T Fiber 1 Gbps service, my download and upload speeds average 150-200 Mbps when using an Ethernet adapter. From what others have said, this is a limitation between Apple and Belkin hardware. I can get much faster speeds when using Wi-Fi, but…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Update available

If you need speed, you'd better spend your money on a decent WiFi hotspot. Check out the Ubiquiti AC-PRO series. It's just as fast, doesn't tie you to the wall, and benefits your other wireless devices. With this device I was far from reaching the advertised speed of 480 Mbps. My iPhoneX has a top speed of around 200Mbps - the same as Wi-Fi (I have full gigabit internet). On my wife's iPhone 11, her WiFi is even *FASTER* than this ethernet adapter. It also slows down my charging speed: charging

Lightning only charges, no data transfer

As mentioned in the question and answer, the lightning pass-through port can only be used for charging, not for data transfer. The intended use case for backhaul is obviously networks where the Ethernet switch does not support Power over Ethernet (POE). But it also means that app developers building POS terminals or other kiosk apps can't connect their test devices to their MacBooks and their test networks at the same time. Very uncomfortable! Makes debugging impossible. For such a price I…

[Updated] Ethernet + PoE and Lightning charging

I wanted to use this device for two functions: 1) Uploading large files from my 256GB iPhone 7 Plus which I use for video and photo taking. (Holiday media accumulates so quickly!) 2) Connection to networked systems for testing and also to charge the iPhone if I forgot my charger. (I work in networking, so PoE switches are more common than Lightning cables.) Unfortunately, on the network connection side, the adapter doesn't work very well. The connection is stable, but the bandwidth is limited…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Almost everything is there

Works, but there are flaws in the design.

Tested with iPad Air 2, iPhone Max and iPhone X. 1GB tube from FIOS. Cons... The cable is too short for an absurdly large dongle! Totally useless hanging an iPhone/iPad with this thing underneath, plus an ethernet cable. That's not even enough for kiosk use. Must be at least 3'. There goes a star. They also had to make sure the Lightning connector does more than just charge, since it's technically capable of transferring audio, for example. The positives… With SpeedTest I get 135 Mbit/s and 230
