🔪 Optimized Jointer Knife Setting Jig - Big Horn 19614 Review

No instructions in the box but YouTube is a wonderful thing. Holds knives in my jointer while you push them down. Probably saved hours of frustration.

The knife attachment is heavy brass and has a powerful magnet but the rails are not perpendicular to each other making alignment of the dressing knives much more difficult.

Two of the 6 magnets were proud of their finish upon delivery. I had to drill a hole in the top to knock them out, deepen the countersink and push them back in. Then I had to spend a lot of time rubbing them flat. One beam had a yoke of about 2K. I did not find that the applied alignment lines were offset face to face like some buyers do.

I've been waiting for the weekend to take the time to set up my woodworking equipment. I just opened the box to install the knives on my 6 inch jointer. Advertised as new. Obviously used. The transport packaging is damaged, but the box is dented. Numerous scratches, dents, worn brass finish. I paid for a new one so I'm waiting for a new one. I also think there will be some documents. Instructions etc nothing included. Useless

Just because something has weight doesn't make it good. It was almost useless. As a result, not only could the height of the knife not be adjusted, but the front and back of the knife deflected about 2mm during travel testing. So I still had to set the knives the old fashioned way, using a millimeter ruler and making sure each blade had about 6mm of travel. it's really nice and TAAAAAA way better than the plastic everyone sells. I had to search a very long time for such a solid brass, but it was worth it. Now my blades are in perfect condition, which was definitely not the case before with plastic processing, loose magnets or a steel ruler. It has thick heavy brass rails with nice strong magnets. I haven't had a chance to try this tool yet. Too cold. A lot of people have mentioned magnets falling out of those plastic mounts. The magnets are embedded very well in this brass holder. I checked how square and parallel the tool is and for the measuring tools I have it seems accurate. I bought this for my Jet 8 planer. Can't say enough about this tool it does the job perfectly. I had trouble aligning all of the knives and setting them to the same height on my 20 year old Jet 6" joint machine as the adjustment screws are rounded on the ends and tend to creep up when tightened. The solid brass blanks from which this lamp is made completely rule this out. Ditch the cheaper plastic models - people complain that they bend, leading to more trial and error.
