Expensive but worth it :)

As you can see in my photo 2 pounds of Biohome can fill up to 2 trays of my Fluval 407 when placed vertically. The ceramic bio rings that come with Fluval are significantly smaller. So I just used bio rings to complete 2 biohome trays. I used coarse and fine buffing pads in the bottom bowl, then Biohome and ceramic rings in the next 2 bowls, then finally Purigen and Poly-fil in the top bowl. My water is crystal clear! Even after I put the driftwood in, it sucked out the tannins overnight :) As…

Good media, but use enough to get full benefit.

I like Biohome Ultimate but you have to use the recommended amount for nitrate reduction and take your time. I have 5 pounds for my tightly filled 55 gallons. Throughout the year I can't say I get zero nitrates (25% pwc weekly) but the nitrates are well controlled and never go above 30-40ppm. I'm increasing Biohome Ultimate to 4kg to see if I get any further reductions. Also, buy your biohome direct from Great Wave Engineering as it is half the price and the customer service is excellent. The balls don't work lol!

I updated my Biorb filter media as recommended by Pond Guru on YouTube which got my aquarium back on track. These balls of bacteria have been in my aquarium for 20 days now and no nitrite has appeared. When I used Seachem Stability bacteria in my other tanks I had nitrites by day 15. These bacterial balls are considered the best. not for me. My aquarium has always had 1ppm ammonia, everything is stable and no lights are burning, with plenty of medium to grow. I don't know why it takes longer…

All my fish died

I added this to my 250 gallon tank. All reviews about him were amazing. I did my usual tank cleaning with a 20% water change. The only thing I've done differently is my canister. Two hours after adding it, my nitrate levels were off the charts and my pH was extremely high! That night I changed another 20% of the water and went to bed for two. When I woke up the next morning I found that 2 of my 6 inch African Leaffish were dead. I removed them from the tank and did another 20% water change but…

it will not be popular! Please read my review.

I have kept fish for most of my life. Of course, nitrate reduction is our top priority. So I do 4 experiments. Let me explain, first = 55 gallons of cichlid, swamp work with Biohome Ultimate. Good result for ammonia and nitrites, but ZERO for nitrates. I like this concept, but it's a very expensive solution just for ammonia and nitrite. Second = wooden ship bioreactor (scaled down) for my 55 gallons of dark water. Specifically, setting for nitrate reduction = 20-30% nitrate reduction. But this…
