Must have kitchen good for mandolins and slicers

I received my first Borner slicer in the early 1990's (pictured) and it has just worn out. I was glad they are still in production. I originally bought this when I was younger and canned it a lot, but have continued to use it over the years. Now that I have arthritis in my hands I use it for chopping and slicing. It's very easy to clean but the new one doesn't stand up on its own and I don't have a lot of storage space so it doesn't fit where I had my old one. I would definitely recommend this…

Balanced design and functionality

I got my first Borner food slicer (tangerine) in the early 90's and over the last thirty years it has survived many moves and cycles in the dishwasher. Unfortunately the plastic of this old kitchen cutter has started to break and some attachments are missing a few teeth. So I decided it was time to replace the old Borner with a new one. You can't get enough of a replacement. All the features I loved about my first Borner kitchen slicer are present in this new one and if anything the design…

  • Great for me

Works great

I have been cooking at home for over 30 years; I can't believe I lived without Mandelin this whole time. I bought it about a month ago and I use it several times a week. Borner works like a dream. I cut vegetables, citrus and lettuce in much less time than before and the results are better than if I just used my knife. Cleaning the Borner couldn't be easier and I love that everything fits together for storage. It slips right into a small spot in my closet. I really like this kitchen tool…

One "thing " to rule them all.

If you are looking for a kitchen appliance. then that's it. After watching a video from the test kitchen of America, I looked at the options. They recommended the previous version. So I bought this version, it arrived this morning and I just sliced and diced my veggies. (not minutes but seconds). And yes, it's fast and accurate. Yes, as noted by some reviews, the memory and "vertical position" features are gone in the previous version, but this feature weighs more. highly recommend and I am…

What a problem for the money

Borner V5 is a good mandolin but lacks in design. The blade holder is bulky and difficult to store. Takes up too much room for a drawer and is NOT designed to stand alone on a counter. The locking mechanism makes it difficult to adjust the blades. There are few instructions and the "video" didn't play on my DVD player so I looked it up online and there were no instructions on how to use the blades. You must be familiar and familiar with mandolins if you want to buy them. I've owned a Borner V…

Best mandolin I have ever used

Saw this slicer at my local grocery store. Because it was one of their best-selling slicers; I had to make an online purchase. In my opinion, the food slicer stands out above all because of the adjustable knife guide depth. All the way up and the slicer is safe to use (the blade is "under” the guide and cannot be used for slicing). By going through all 3 levels you can cut into slices about 1/4 inch thick. I found the blades to be very sharp and cut through tubers or "tougher" foods with ease…

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model

Slicing, food holder doesn't hold up well due to risk-free design

Used it last night to dice two sweet onions, a head of lettuce and some tomatoes. It's spicy and went well with the salad. Shreds up a small head of taco lettuce very quickly. The main problem is the vegetable holder. It has prongs that you have to dig into the item you are cutting to hold it so you don't hold the item with your fingers. The pins are small round pins with flat ends. I tried onions, didn't bother with them. Tried a tomato, didn't penetrate, crushed the tomato under pressure…
