If you can work in a dark room, I think that's fine at best, but who wants to work in the dark. If you work in normal lighting conditions, the red laser is not suitable. I finally broke down and got to work on the tiles in my house. With nearly 2,500 square feet of tile to lay, this looked like an easy way to align my lines. It pretty much puts in the batteries and presses the button. The first use was to place tiles along a hallway that was about 1/4 the total gap with the full width of the tiles across the width and that made things easier.
