Description of Bosch RA1165 Under Table Router Above Table

NEW AND IMPROVED: The Bosch RA1165 Under-Table Router Base is the new base for the 1617 1618 series routers, replacing the RA1164. ADUSTABLE: The RA1165 conveniently allows depth adjustment of bit height from above the table. The router base is designed for use with 1617, 1617EVS, 1617EVSPK, 1618, 1618EVS routers. MOUNTABLE: The RA1165 base has threaded holes positioned in Bosch’s 4-hole subbase pattern and common 3-holes subbase pattern for mounting. CONVENIENT: The wide 3-3 4 base opening allows for the use of larger bits while the quick clamp system allows the motor to be moved with ease for tool-free base changes.

It's good to have a second one if you want.

I didn't get it, but this is the same base that is already on the Bosch router, I don't see any difference. It's good to have a second one in case you want to take the motor out of this case for general use. If you plan on keeping a router on your router table permanently, just use the ones you already have. As far as I can tell there is no reason to buy it

Easy height adjustment and loosen adjustment screw retaining pin

The clip holding the adjustment rod opens and slides out of the groove. After that, the adjustment screw is useless and you have to remove and fix the plate. Overall there isn't much height adjustment for the bit, and you spend a lot of time rotating above and below the table to adjust it. Too bad I didn't spend money on better equipment.

Poor height adjustment design

I bought my RA1165 router base in October 2017 and was happy with it until a few days ago. Adjusting the cutter height with an Allen key was always a bit of a hassle and hard to know when the upper limit was reached. Exceeding this value can cause the external snap ring to move out of the groove in the adjustment rod. The snap ring is pretty flimsy and changing the design to a thicker snap ring might solve the problem.

Literally the worst piece of wood I've ever owned

I love my Bosch router but it's hard to put into words how awful this blade is. It fails on every imaginable level and is almost impossible to use. Thought I'd save some money by buying this instead of Kreg; I should have known better. I'm not even trying to use this thing anymore - I'm using the standard base that came with the router. I can't even fully explain in this space how frustrating it is to use this thing. Suffice it to say there's a reason it's $250 less than the Kreg.

Very handy accessory if you only have 1 motor

Very handy accessory - love to keep the base mounted on my (Bosch) router table and quickly switch the motor between hand and table. With an open Bosch router table (not the cabinet version) I never use the height adjustment key from the top of the table. Either way you have to get under the table to unlock the router for adjustment so personally I found it easier to just turn the adjustment knob at the base of the router from below and you have a reference option of 0 to make the adjustments…

I tried and I tried

I bought it because $300 elevators were out of my reach. I had to save my money and spend it on a $300 facelift. I never managed to get it to work as described. Maybe operator error, I'm not sure. I'm just sure it won't go up and down without taking it off the router table. Add to my dissatisfaction with the table and platen for the Bosch router that they are not a standard size and now I have to buy a table and lift. Last week I couldn't tighten the Rockler through tool without shims in the…

Good idea, poor execution (or quality control)

I bought this product to complement the Bosch RA1181 table in hopes that I would not need a router lift and could quickly switch my Bosch 1617 from a router table on a fixed or submersible base. The first few uses worked as expected, although it was a bit of a hassle to insert; Make sure the alignment arrows were correct and the motor was screwed into place. After a few more uses, it became increasingly difficult to insert the 1617 motor into the socket under the table until it wouldn't go in…

Incredible value - NOT the same as my stock base

A great and affordable alternative to ridiculously expensive router table lifts. While it's not as easy to use as the really great lifters on the market, I gave it 5 stars because it's such value that I'm glad I didn't notice a small difference in ease of use. I have 1617EVSPK. and the default base in mine does NOT work like this base. Rates may have changed over time, so different situations may arise. The key question is whether the handle/shaft of the height adjuster has an open end that can
