Clamps don't seem to lock onto the ends of the ball without flexing and cursing but they hold this heavy E36 hood quite well and that's what I need

As mentioned in other comments. These hood struts don't go as far as the stock ones. The locking clips don't work, had to use the locking clips from my old shock absorbers. But the price makes up for the shortcomings.

I have an E36 323i. They work, but note that the hood doesn't open as high as it used to. Or should I say the hood doesn't open that far. I would estimate the hood with OEM pillars to be a little over 2 inches below its maximum height. I hit my head about 5 times trying to get out from under the hood of my car. They've been in my car for four months now. There's still a lot of pressure. It's good.

As everyone else has said, the clips that hold them to the pins don't work. They have a huge amount of games; I don't understand how they can work. I see a vendor in the FAQ advising people to reuse their old clamps, which seems ridiculous. Even if the overall dimensions of the pillars are workable, the actual body length is slightly longer than the original BMW. Do not use the plastic tie that leads the wire and washer fluid hose to the hood.
