Ready for a couple? No, only hot water!

I bought this espresso machine about two weeks ago. My older brother also has a Breville but his steamer is 10x the price of this one. Well, it goes without saying that you get what you pay for. I fill the device with filtered bottled water and turn it on. The heater indicator light will stay on for about a minute and then turn off, which means the unit is likely ready. Actually it isn't. Instead, I set the stovetop timer to 10 minutes, after which the device is ready to use, but only for…

I like it but there may be some minor improvements

UPDATE: Heater light stopped working after just a few months. Now I know it was discontinued in 2009. thanks to Revain and Breville. I'm afraid to call customer service because Breville didn't do much to help with the food processor issue last time. The Cafe Roma espresso maker makes a great cappuccino. Works great for its price. I used my friend's more expensive Breville Barista and loved it, but it wasn't in the budget. I would improve 2 things. The distance between the espresso spouts is…

Love this machine

This is my second Breville ESP8XL. My newest, ESP6XL. lasted ten years and was used every day. I love this little car! It was a pre-8XL model. Basically the same. I had a hard time finding it for sale because Breville discontinued this model. I tried a DeLonghi car that looked similar to me and I was disappointed from day one. I found this one at Revain and immediately jumped in and ordered it. I don't care if this model is discontinued, I will happily use it for another ten years. This is a…

Great quality for the price - NO! (UPDATED)

I love this car. Too bad it was discontinued. Not sure how long it will last but I bought it because my DeLonghi died after 5 months of light use. Hoping it lasts longer. Quality materials, everything is steel, not plastic, even the top cover! It makes an excellent crema and is very forgiving of grinding. A milk frother works great if you know what you're doing and get the right milk. It heats up quickly. The portafilter isn't pressurized, instead the pressure comes from the basket, meaning you

. about half a year and still very happy with the results

Had this machine in our office for about half a year and have been very happy with the results so far. It's good for the price, but not a professional device. There are ways to balance this out and still get a strong espresso. My tips for getting the most out of this coffee maker: Since this coffee maker can't cook as much as a professional coffee maker, it's best to start with dark roasted espresso beans to make up for some of the flavor loss. Grind using your favorite method, but I do it in a

Sometimes it works if you have patience.

I fucking babysit and that's why I manage to get cappucini. But an o-ring only lasts a few weeks or months, and replacing o-rings is utter bullshit—you never know if they'll last a week or a month. They aren't cheap either. If the o-rings fail, the machine will squirt the coffee and make a terrible mess. I don't know why so many of these expensive machines (read so many other C machines have the same problem) can't fix this compression problem. I suspect most people only use their C machines…

4 years later it's still holding up.

Purchased in 2016. I'm not a coffee snob but I've been using it almost daily for 4 years (1460 operations) and it's become a family member. It's not a "professional" espresso, but close enough to rock 'n' roll. The trick for me was getting the coffee grind right - if it's too coarse it'll maniacally splash all over the place, and if you make it too fine it'll be hard to push water through and get stuck. I tell the barista to grind it just enough so it doesn't stick together, it's a consistency…
