Bad Linux support for USB network adapters

I've updated this review after finally finding the right driver and getting it working. The github driver morrownr/88x2bu also works fine with the latest kernel (5.13.4) on Fedora. Since I have Secure Boot enabled, I have to decompress, sign and recompress the driver every time I update. (Signing compressed modules is poorly documented and was confusing to me.) Bottom line, it now works fine, albeit only through dkms. Below are my original comments: This is based on Realtek rtl8822au chipset…

Great product - saved me a lot of trouble

We recently set up 4 expensive Dell Alienware M17 laptops for a university course/deep learning lab. The prototype, which we had extensively tested a few weeks earlier, worked perfectly with Ubuntu and all deep learning packages running on the GPU. But the 4 machines shipped after that suddenly had a different Wi-Fi card that didn't work with Ubuntu until the next release. I quickly ordered 4 of these adapters and after a simple setup process I have Wi-Fi on all 4 of my computers just in time…

A working 5GHz WiFi adapter on Linux!

I was looking for a 5GHz wireless adapter compatible with Linux. Reading reviews of other devices, people had trouble getting them to work on Linux despite the advertised compatibility, so I was a bit skeptical of this device for the same reason. After reading some reviews here that said they were able to get it to work after contacting tech support, I went ahead and placed my order. After getting this adapter and trying to install it, I had almost the same experience as other reviewers. That…

Thoughtful Setup Script Eases Installation on Linux

There seems no getting around the fact that only a small subset of Wi-Fi adapters are fully plug-and-play on Linux in general and on any given distribution ; and the installation process for many of these adapters can be quite intimidating for Linux newbies like me. in the right place and copy the only command. The installation actually failed at first, but it was still good news. When the BrosTrend installation script failed, it produced a clear, human-readable error message stating that it…

A lifesaver for Linux people - a must 10 Stars

Much of my daily work relies heavily on Linux. The Wi-Fi chip on my laptop started failing and I couldn't access the wireless internet. My laptop is 8 years old and I have no plans to buy a new one. There's still a lot of life left. Working with wired internet (which I could) at home is not easy and not convenient. I've been looking for a Wi-Fi adapter to match my Linux OS for 6 months. I tried the regular drivers from TPlink and Netgear but the available online drivers didn't work for me. They

Works well on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Excellent customer service.

I've been looking for a good WiFi power adapter that works with Linux for a long time. I bought a Netgear A6210 and was very disappointed that it doesn't work on Linux. Yes, there are people with git repositories with instructions on how to install drivers, but I've always had issues with disconnecting. I came across this product after looking for Revain. I was very skeptical about buying a product from a brand I had never heard of, but I took a chance because I received a quick response when I

Non-Plug-n-Play on Linux

The only reason I give this unit four stars is that once installed the adapter does the job. What is it for exactly? This is part of the trick. It says it "works on Linux" but actually they should have said it works on Debian-based distros. Others that are not officially supported have also provided online instructions. I figured this adapter would help me install distros to try out (I do distro reviews on YouTube). The first one I installed it on was a Debian-based system, and the instructions
