Fast but terrible print quality

I won't go into details, many have already done so. This is mostly about print quality (which oddly enough is rarely mentioned). The print quality, especially when compared to Xerox Phaser or HP etc. is just terrible. However, it's definitely not 1200 x 1200 DPI like they claim. In my opinion it's not even 600x600. I would make it larger by about 300x600. That marketing hoax alone earned me two stars (sorry, print quality is critical to me). The printing speed is very fast, even after deep…

Waste of money for laser printers

I bought this printer to replace another Brother that left toner on my pages. Brand new, ready to use, quality equal or worse than the unit I replaced. yes i cleaned it That helps for 1-2 prints and then goes back to the toner everywhere. As mentioned, replacing a brand new photoconductor unit with another is a) more than the cost of the printer and b) crap if there's no guarantee it will make a difference. avoid it Follow-up post from February 2019 - finally pissed off enough with the printer…

Normal except for print quality and hassle with Brother warranty

Just terrible print quality with a gray background with streaks and spots (see photo). Print quality was good initially but started to deteriorate after a month or two and maybe 200 pages (actual page count is 398). I have followed the cleaning procedure as per the instructions on the Brother website. The problem reappeared a few days later. I then called the Brother Help Desk where the agent walked me through the same process. I asked them what should I do if the same problem occurs again. She

Best printer of its kind

I looked at probably a hundred printers before deciding on the Brother HLL5100DN. I needed something that could handle large withdrawals without burning a hole in my wallet. Most laser printers seem like a lot then look at the cost of the toner. For most of the printers I researched, I also checked the cost of the toner. Few printers stand out from the crowd when it comes to toner consumption and cost - the Brother HLL5100DN is one of them. Another brand of 8,000-page toner is available for…

Brother has improved a little

Like their other printers (and all-in-ones), Brother has been relatively Linux-friendly for a while. Brother offers driver support for RPM and Deb based distributions. They even provide a script to help you install it. In my case, of course, the script didn't work. I installed the deb files anyway and my printer got installed. I used the ubiquitous system-config-printer program to set up the printer. He found the printer and offered various connection options. I bought this printer to replace…
