I have no way of knowing if this filter is doing the same job that the OEM did, but we don't drink water from the fridge anyway, so it's a moot point to me. Besides the GE genuine filter which costs a lot, this aftermarket filter is next in quality that I'd get. There are a lot of unknown brand and counterfeit filter that I was burned with. I installed the filter and the taste of water is terrific. The old filter that I replaced didn't have this good taste when it was new.

Great replacement filter for my Hotpoint branded fridge (GE underlying components). This filter is much more affordable than the original and does every bit as good as far as I can tell. It takes a few glasses of water drawn through it after initial install before the water will run clear due to loose carbon inside. I bought this filter for my GE Refrigerator. I first installed the filter and after a series of "a loud racheting noise", no water would come out. I took it out and tried and tried again. First, I'll state my bias here: I think these water filters are a big pile of crap and I think it's ridiculous of GE and the other manufacturers to have them in their refrigerators. And I think it's absolutely obscene that GE charges $40 for each one.So that said, I can't tell any difference between this and the GE MWF filter it replaced on my 2009 GE fridge. You have to run a couple gallons out at the start to get all the charcoal dust out, but other than that it went in fine and I can't taste

This replaced a G.E. MWF for less than 50% of the price. Fit perfectly. It did take a little longer for the water to clear of the minute charcoal particles than the G.E., but for 50% of the cost of the G.E., I can afford to waste an extra gallon or two of water during the break-in period. The G.E. model does do some additional filtering besides just odor/taste (see website for specs) but if you're on municipal water and just looking to get better tasting water, it can't be beat for the price…
