A Cheap Tool That Does A Job

It's frustrating to buy a cheap tool and think "How hard is it to make X?" only to find out that the tool absolutely can't quite literally do that , what it exists for. I was a little concerned that this would be one of those tools. No, that is not so. If you're a pro, you probably want to look for something higher that lasts longer. If you need to do a few odd jobs or do something around the house or as a hobby, that's fine.

Crude and cheap but works

I paid $10.99 for mine. At this price it's just ok. It's cheaply made and you can feel it. The pressure control is stiff and it takes a lot of finger strength to switch it to high. The position mark does not quite line up with the hole. Following a recommendation, I just left it at a high level. It penetrates the wire quite well but leaves the ends hanging a little on the insulation. I wouldn't recommend it for professional work, but it's definitely better than a disposable plastic tool for…

Collar spring broke on first use.

I took the tool out of the box, pulled down the neck collar to get a closer look at the bit and immediately the spring on the other side of the collar popped out. I will add that the ball bearing holding the racquet also fell out when this happened. I had to spend 10 minutes looking for a tiny tool ball bearing that broke less than sixty seconds after opening it. As far as I can tell there is no good or easy way to get the spring back on the correct side of the tool. waste of money. Even if I…

Works well but there are problems with cheapness from China.

This punch tool works great. Works great with various keystone jacks and patch panel. The biggest problem is that one of the ball bearings in the blade retaining ring has failed, preventing me from removing the tip. This does not affect the function, but is a bit annoying when storing the tool, since there is no rubber cap and the cut blade is nice and sharp. Cap to protect the blade. I might try replacing it later, but for a home network setup this works great.

The dials and blade do not work. Poor quality

So I like wired business devices but it's really not a good product. It cuts through wires well, but the blade cuts poorly. Also, it's set to Lo effect and it's almost impossible to move the slider to Hi and if I move it to Hi it goes back to Lo again. So actually I can't use that or test it for Hi. With that said, I completed my perforations with this tool and simply pushed the blade flush with the keystone and wire to essentially "hollow out" the wire. It actually worked well as I got nice…

It works. If you use such a tool often, buy something better.

It's amazing that for such a low price you can get something that works. But to be honest this is a very light build and I don't think it will last long. Getting the blade out and back in is tricky: if you put it in the wrong way around (I did) it will get stuck and it will be very difficult to get it out again. The blade compartment below works, but the small rotating lid that closes the compartment seems to have a lot of plastic ridges that prevent it from rotating easily. It will likely…

Great for the average home/small office user

First of all, my initial rating was 1 star - my original tool broke on first use. Cable Matters emailed back a few days later and replaced it for free with no questions asked and best of all they didn't ask to remove or revise the review - they just mentioned that they had a negative review had seen them and said they would send a replacement. The replacement works well and the yoke, which was broken on the original, moves much easier when replaced. So they definitely have fantastic customer…
