Working with Ubuntu 18.04

I just switched my production machine to Ubuntu 18.04 and wanted to keep my three screen setup. After trying other adapters I'd used for Windows, I ordered them and they did. Now my mini desktop (Gigabyte Brix) has 3 working screens. 1 hdmi and 2 usb -> vga. I also installed the drivers from the DisplayLink website and custom drivers from github: /AdnanHodzic/displaylink-debian when trying to get the previous adapters to work. I'm not sure if only the DisplayLink ones will work with the 4.15

Pros
  • USB to VGA adapter
Cons
  • Some little things

Some MacOS compatibility issues (not solely this product's fault)

When it works, it works great. works with macOS High Sierra (as detailed on the DisplayLink website) - also note that OS updates may disable it entirely. The last update (10.13.4) did this. They say they reported it to Apple and we're waiting. Disappointing, but not entirely their fault. I'm just posting this so you know what you're getting into. If you want to keep software up to date, most likely it won't always "just work".

Better than listed.

After trying several cheaper brands I came to a conclusion. Check out the assessment template. 60% 5-star, 20% 4-star, 20% 1-star are the same cable just with different brands. The same applies to other assessment templates. The above allows me to dispense with other cables, this is the cheapest adapter that works great on my computer. After trying so many, it's hard to believe that any of them actually work perfectly without you having to fiddle with the system to make it work. Not only that…

Glad I made the switch

I had a cheap Raycue brand adapter and then another brand from ABLEWE. Both worked like crap at best. Raycue kept flickering and blurring the screen due to strange update issues. Recently stopped working altogether. ABLEWE creates about 1000 driver notification instances in the taskbar after turning off the main computer screen. So after waking up I would have to either kill all those processes or just restart them. If it really worked, there was always a big deficit. Videos larger than 360p…

Cons
  • Big and bulky

Doesn't work for me. *see update*

I may have hit a dead end, but it didn't work at all. I installed from the CD that came with it and then uninstalled. Reinstalled updated drivers from their website, nothing. Tried a different cable, different port, different computer, all on the latest macOS. Nothing! Other reviews are very positive so maybe I just received one that didn't work. *UPDATE* Support contacted me about problems with the adapter. I already sent the adapter back, so CableCreation kindly sent me another adapter to…
