Cal Van Tools 988 Legged Filter Review

The oil change shop overtightened my filter and I have tried everything to remove it. Bought a few items at Walmart and a local auto parts store and nothing worked. This thing absolutely worked like a charm.

I made the mistake of changing my oil at one of these quick oil change locations. Well, they made the mistake of rotating the filter the wrong way and ended up tightening (and damaging) it. Unable to remove the filter, they gave up and sent me on without warning. I was wondering why they ran so long and the engine was a bit full. As other users have noted, it's really difficult to grab the smaller filters at the bottom of the stated coverage. The filter seems to slip a lot, even on those with recessed grips. Controlling it with two hands is inconvenient to keep it from slipping. I'll keep it and add a feather on the outside of the legs and some plastic dip on the legs. I can also try beveling the ends of the legs to get a better grip, like my old model of the same tool. Stay tuned
