Works best in tools and equipment

I used this tool to remove shock absorbers on my Jaguar. Compressed springs are not for the faint of heart, but the safety clips prevent the tool from slipping off the compressed spring. Helped me, I will buy more!

Pros
  • Quick Change
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

CalVan Tools 513 Master Macpherson Strut Compressor

I work on the car a bit but so much that I needed a strut compressor. I have had other compressors in the past but have always been cautious about using them as the compressor slipping or breaking could result in serious damage and injury. This compressor works very well, there are clips at the attachment points to prevent slipping and the metal parts are very strong. I have used it many times and am very satisfied.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Damaged

not for large springs

I ordered this compressor (the box said it was made in Taiwan for OEM tooling) and used it on a 2000 Tundra, but the spring is 11/2 in diameter 16 and the safety can hit the spring and it won't snap. It appears that 9/16 gauge spring wire or smaller is suitable for use with safety latches. Also, the bolts were slightly bent when fully compressed. It worked and I changed it, but I was scared. This tool is fine for lighter springs, but for pickups or springs with wire diameters larger than 9/16…

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Long wait
