Works perfectly! -Installation tip

Installation takes a while - we heated up an old screwdriver to 'punch' the holes, which worked much better than trying to use a hole punch. Basically, I came here to give this advice to others! It's holding up very well so far, lasting about half a year I think. Definitely recommend if you have young children and want the railing to be safe.

Fixing positions are stronger than screw positions

We have been using this handrail protector for about a year now. We have 1 child and a toddler who needs it so he went through a lot of pushing and pulling. It can withstand light, gentle use, but will break under pressure. I was surprised that the parts we screwed on came off first. Another thing to note is that our kids thought the railing guard was inviting them to walk or climb right on it. The wooden railing broke under the pressure. Also remember that fingerprints heavily soil the…

Good safety measure for adventurous cats

I bought this product to protect my foolhardy cat after she fell from the attic/balcony on the 2nd floor. Although this product is not perfect, it does the job better than other products. Before that I installed a trellis as a security measure. Needless to say, the cat climbed onto the net and walked along the railing at the top, which was even more dangerous. Luckily that plastic is too slippery for her to climb in and she's stayed off the balcony since I installed it. Screwdriver…

Very accurate Required

Our house has a small area with horizontal railings that is basically a climbing wall (which is so much more fun!). After several days of constant reminders to keep it up, we realized we had to find a better solution. This is the only one I've found that suits our needs, but if we didn't have the type of railings we have I would never have bought fencing and the mesh/mesh barriers wouldn't be strong enough to support a prevent climbing. A few things to know before you buy: - Although it is…

Useful basic product

We bought this barrier because we recently had two kittens and they gave us a heart attack trying to walk on the railing outside our living room. Since we don't want cats literally raining down on us from above, we bought this product to prevent that from happening. This is an incredibly simple product. It's just a roll of hard, flexible, clear plastic, a hole punch, and zip ties. It also includes some screws to attach it to the wall. First we rolled it out and cut it to length. We chose to…

Update: Almost three years later, it's holding up well.

October 2017 Installing this handrail protector was a lot more difficult than other reviewers have described. It took several "sessions" to finally get it, probably a few hours total. (I find it easier to install ceiling fans than this railing guard.) It also doesn't look "invisible" like others describe. It scratches and smudges easily, and every little bend or bend in the plastic casts a bright light, so obviously we've got guards along the railing in the attic - and it looks pretty cheesy…
