Magnification too high

There is a serious problem when used with a standard stereo microscope. Most eyepieces have a 10x magnification. The camera has a 30x magnification. There is no way you can get a smaller magnification and have the same field of view in both. What I needed to take the picture was a 40mm petri dish, which at 10x magnification would fill the entire screen. The camera view could only capture a small part. NOT what I needed. The rest is good. The instruction manual is bad. It seems the increase is…

Works great, extra magnification is a positive

Purchased (5 megapixel version) for my daughter's LW Scientific Student Advanced microscope. Arrived today. I downloaded the software onto a Windows 10 PC, connected the camera to the adapter, replaced the adapter with a standard eyepiece (for this particular microscope you need a very small Allen key to loosen a very small screw to remove the eyepiece ), plugged in the Celestron Digital Microscope Imager into the USB port, the software ran and boom, works like a charm, super straight forward…

Great price some caveats

Bought this device for work. It works very well but has some limitations. The first is a limited field of view - about a third of the area visible through the eyepiece. The second is dynamic range. I did a lot of soldering and checked circuit boards under a lighted stereo microscope. The camera's limited range and the microscope's localized light source tend to create specular highlights on the rounded solder joints that interest me most. Since the camera tends to work in automatic exposure…

Recommended for photo and photography

This is a great solution for home and school labs. Don't confuse it with Celestron's less powerful camera and software that comes with some of their microscopes. This is a 2 megapixel device that simply plugs into a microscope in place of an eyepiece. (You'll need to check the inside diameter of the eyepiece tube, but it comes with an adapter and will fit many tubes.) The software that comes with it isn't particularly feature-rich, but it works well and is easy to use. (It seems best to run the

Gives excellent results for the price

I am using this with an OMAX 40-2000 stereo microscope. The camera looks through one eyepiece and through the other at the center. I've seen some comments about update speed. No problems with my Win 7 computer. The software required the latest version to work in 64 bit but was sourced from Celestron. I can take a video or photo. Grain was not a problem. I chose the setting to double the number of pixels. No problem. The color is very good and the resolution is excellent, no problems with steps.

Not 5 MP, with software upsampling, 2 MP Raw image 960P

1. "The image is too enlarged!" because you selected a photo or video resolution of 1920x1080. This is not the camera's native resolution and will be scaled/cropped. Choose the 960P resolution and suddenly you see the same field of view as the eyepieces. It also greatly improves the picture quality.2. The sensor has a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 (2MP) and is NOT a 5MP sensor. This is the actual resolution determined by the Mac camera or Windows camera software. You will only see the 2560…

Digital Microscope Celestron Imager 44421

Very happy with this product but there are a few small issues. The software does not provide a resolution setting that exactly matches the image sensor's native resolution, so the image must be zoomed in or out to fit the size, resulting in some pixel distortion. The frame refresh rate is also a bit slow to get accurate focus. There are programs other than the one provided that work better with it. (see: Science4all - Microscopy and Photography). Another thing is the barrel diameter. It is…

Software renders the camera useless

Let's start with the good points of this very inexpensive camera. This will probably be enough for a beginner kid who has absolutely no experience and no expectations. It will capture a rough image of some of what you see, but the image will be poorly exposed and the white balance will vary wildly. It can easily take a rough picture. The software is definitely the weak link, although the camera itself isn't much better. The first problem with the software is that it is not possible to see the…
