You Need It Best At Pistons & Parts

After years of struggling with an old belt compressor, this one worked so well it was like a scam. I make enough 4 inch motors (SBC, SBF) in various typical oversized sizes and buying a semi special bore ring compressor like this made sense to me. Even if you only build ONE engine at a time, all the problems make sense. This saves you having to install pistons without damaging the rings.

Perhaps it is worth stopping at the classic ring compressor.

looks cool. Clamp is not really needed. My pistons are 4,040, so right in the middle of the range. really tight fitting. You have to push the plunger. Aluminum plates come out of the compressor to keep them out of the engine. but some pistons cut metal off the compressor. Right now I have 4 inputs and no other compressor so I think I'm in for a win.

Pros
  • Spare parts
Cons
  • Slightly torn

No instructions. improvise!

Item arrived quickly as expected. At first I was impressed with the compression method of the rings, but had a hard time figuring out how much "slack" the band had to give to allow the piston to be assembled. Move past the bottom of the compressor. After about 30 minutes of trying, I finally managed to install a piston. Upon inspection, I found that I had formed a burr on the bottom of the tool by over-tightening the tape. There are no instructions warning against overtightening the tape…
