Great selection of WS2812 LEDs to play with

I wasn't sure what I needed so this is what I got. This turned out to be a great choice. I can use some of them to try on and buy what I need. They are attached concentrically so you have to separate them by hand. I didn't care about the quality of the soldering on the power/data lines because there were too many of them, but they worked great. The wire used for the connectors is too heavy for the smaller rings. However, if you plan on using them all together as a unit, that's not a problem.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Very expensive

Great product but be careful of polarity

I bought this for a watch project and found that the positive and negative terminals on the plug were reversed so I had to tweak my project. No big deal but be careful. Came in a stationary bag and worked great. Bright NeoPixels and very responsive. Robust construction. The only other issues I found prior to powering up were looking at the solder joints with a magnifying glass and noticing loose strands of wire on the signal line making contact with the ground solder joint. Again, no big deal…

Bright and versatile LED rings for your projects

The ring lamp caught my attention after watching Brainy Bit's retroreflective retroreflector video tutorial on YouTube. I got there while looking for a chromatic keying solution in a VERY small room where the wall is right behind my chair. For this particular use, I assigned a ring of 24 LEDs and controlled it with an Arduino Nano. As you can see in the video, this works pretty well and eliminates any green blotch concerns caused by green reflections from traditional green screens. case more…

Comfortable and functional

These rings are suitable for most purposes. They seem a bit brighter than the others, and the pre-soldered connectors are fine and properly connected (the WS2812B LED string I ordered elsewhere came with the JST-SM connectors reversed). However please note compared to previous rings I have purchased. : a) The outer ring is nominally 45mm, but the inner ring is slightly larger so it may not "snap" onto the inner sleeve made for other brands of rings. b) LEDs are connected in reverse order…

Party tricks galore!

Do you have family, friends or colleagues who don't understand why you are so passionate about microcontrollers, IoT, manufacturers, etc.? Here's a simple solution: set up a NEOPixel demo sketch, power it up with a 9V battery, and transfer data from a small Arduino. The light show and brightness will amaze you. Because it's not one long strip, you get a very interesting effect, and small code changes that show how easy it is to manipulate templates will inspire other programmers that even they…

Lots of cables but works fine

I'm trying to use LED light rings to create a chroma key (ie green screen) project. Therefore, I only need a monochrome light source. I also removed the middle 9 LEDs so I have a hole for my camera. Although each LED is individually addressable, I programmed my controller so that each LED is the same color. The most consistent colors are red, green, blue and white as shown in the images. Note that white has a bluish tint even though all three colors have the same specified lightness. The LEDs…
