A Piece of Crap in the Computers and Accessories Department

I've had good luck with a few other Linksys products, but this one hit rock bottom. Too bad I didn't read the reviews before my friend bought it. The Linksys wired and wireless broadband routers are top notch. Even their laptop wireless adapter works great for me. But this unit was incredible. The installation took several hours. The driver software didn't even start when you clicked the 'Setup' button. You have a quick flash and the software didn't start (with XP). I found another way to…

Installation difficulties on Windows XP

I had some problems running WMP54G with encryption with my router (WRT54G) on Windows XP. The quick installation guide assumes that Windows XP will recognize the card and install it automatically. It didn't do anything of the sort for me; he wanted me to deploy the driver manually. I strongly recommend getting the latest driver from the Linksys website instead of using the one on the CD. I don't recommend using the Windows Network Assistant or whatever it's called. He added a network bridge…

Worked fine with Windows 7, 64-bit OS

I had no problems installing the device and yes it works with Windows 7 64-bit. I can't explain the issues that many have complained about in their reviews, but I suspect they COULD be the source of the problem. READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. You MUST run the CD first BEFORE installing a PCI card in your computer. DO NOT interrupt the installer even if it hangs before completing. It will pause for a few minutes before completing the installation. For me, this pause occurred at about 20%…

  • There are other interesting options.

I don't care that there are a lot of harsh warnings in the instructions and on the box that the software needs to be installed first. Do not do that. If you don't believe me, do yourself a favor and google it first. device, and then turn on the device. Numerous testimonials on the Internet indicate that this will lead to hardware failures and/or improper installation. Instead, the correct approach is to turn off first, then install hardware, then turn on, and then let Windows detect the device…

Almost as easy as a USB adapter!

NICs like this couldn't be easier to use. Of course you can buy some sort of USB network adapter, but if you can build a complex Lego set and have a spare expansion slot on your desktop, why not free up the built-in USB ports with something that's designed for permanent installation. "The Linksys WMP54G Wireless PCI Adapter is arguably one of the last internal network cards made before the consumer PC market transitioned to USB. In my case I installed the card on an Asus P4SP-MX motherboard in…

connection problems? Check "CHANNEL "

I've searched various forums to see if anyone has a solution to a problem that's been reported so often with this product, where you see the message " A wireless connection is available" and the SSID is shown as an available network, but then you cannot connect to it. I don't think anyone has described the solution I found so I'll try it here, I hope it helps reduce the stress for at least a few other users. I played around with this problem for HOURS yesterday but decided to try again today. I

Works best in network adapters

I bought this wireless card to install in a 7 year old Dell Dimension 2350 desktop computer running Win XP Home SP 3 that was moved to our basement break room when we installed a new Win 7 -Bought the machine. After reading many reviews posted here, I am undecided whether I should follow the advice of some reviewers and ignore the Linksys instructions that ask me to install the software first before inserting the card into the computer case. Other reviewers suggested installing the card first…
