Every toolbox should have step drills; Works with your Impact Wrench

Summary: The last set I had had shanks so I had to use them with a chuck drill. They're 1/4" hex so I can use them in my impact wrench. Suitable for drilling soft materials like plastic, wood, and aluminum. Disc. Cons: Doesn't include a case or storage bag. Super dangerous but great at making holes.

No points for my stupidity but be careful with that. They are sharp and good for drilling holes in sheet metal. There's no easier way, and with a hex shank they stay in place for rated action in heavy metal. I threw one into the drill press at low speed, thinking I could hold the thin stainless steel plate while I made the 5/8" hole. As the 5/8 nut gripped, he twisted the metal in my hands and cut nine stitches. Visiting the emergency room with both hands through a couple of fingers. Trying to…

Good Step Metalworking & Multipurpose Drill

Actual drill diameters are engraved on the drill. This is interesting as I've never seen this before with other step bits I've used. I don't use measurements when using step bits. I basically drill a little at a time, checking the hole until I get the right size. I'm not sure about the durability of these bits yet, but like me, when drilling, be sure to use some kind of oil so you don't burn the bit.
