Update for review below. After troubleshooting the Crank Brothers, we found that unlike the Beater, these pedals have a spring tension "break-in” time and snap-in ability. They were INCREDIBLY rigid out of the box to the point where they wouldn't snap into place and once in they couldn't get out. I'd recommend riding in circles or a familiar loop, constantly retracting and straightening the spring. After a few weeks, they're easy to get into and progressively easier to take off. A bit heavy…
